0.91a Post-Jam Update!


Hello, Touhou fans and shoot-em-up enthusiasts!

With the voting period for the fourth Touhou Pride Jam about to close, I would like to gladly announce a new post-jam update for Bustling Rainbow Marketeer! 0.91a brings some new content and significant improvements to existing content! Unfortunately I could not get everything I wanted to in this update in time before voting ends (especially music), but I hope you'll appreciate what I've put my efforts into.

FULL CHANGELOG:

Players:

Rinnosuke Morichika & Remilio Scarlet:

  • Both shot types completely overhauled. They are still functionally the same (wide shot + auto-targeting shot), but they should now feel more satisfying to use than before.
  • Remilio's shot-type locks on to enemies significantly faster and more aggressively. Damage has also been buffed somewhat. This shot type mimics the lock-on shot from Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi.
  • Rinnosuke's shots now have bigger hitboxes, allowing you to pointblank enemies and shred stages more easily than ever before!
  • Significant buff to Rinnosuke's damage, especially pointblank damage. He can now deal nearly twice as much damage as Miko/Byakuren can at maximum.
  • Special ability changed to "Smaller hitbox".
  •  Speeds buffed: 8.5/4.7 to 9.5/5.2. (Unfocused/Focused)

Byakuren Hijiri & Toyosatomimi no Miko:

  • Hitting with Miko's lasers now creates pretty (but a bit hard to see) particle effects.
  • Miko's lasers nerfed significantly.
  • Byakuren's backshot has been changed up a bit.
  • Special ability changed to "Longer deathbomb timer".
  • Speeds buffed: 10/5.5 to 11.5/5.8.
Both players: Each life now only gives you 2 bombs instead of 3.

Gameplay:

  • Stage: The stage has slightly been extended, adding one new enemy wave and a midboss fight! Thank you to Kobito (https://kobito-games.itch.io/) for allowing me to use his OC as the midboss.
  • System: The scoring system has been overhauled, with the major change being score-based life extends. By obtaining high scores, you can build up your life stocks to make your way ahead safely!
  • Chimata's 2nd attack: Warning lines appear at the bottom of the screen to warn you to get out ASAP. 
  • Chimata’s final attack is now immune to bomb damage.
  • Minor balancing changes to the stage and boss fight overall.

Miscellanous:

  • Accessibility Options: You can now set the opacity of player shots and items in the configurations menu! Yes, this means you can either set both to 0% and not be able to see what you are shooting or what enemies drop at all... or to 100% for an eye-blinding experience on the screen! (The default and recommended opacity is 60%.)
  • The stage background has been changed to night-time to reflect the boss fight’s setting and improve visibility/contrast with bullets.
  • Every time you defeat an enemy, the number of point and PIV items they dropped are now shown briefly. Good visual feedback!
  • The default amount of starting lives has been reduced to 3 to accommodate the score extend system. You can still set the amount of starting lives to something else.
  • Difficulty indicators now appear in the HUD when you start playing.
  • Midboss and boss indicators now appear on the top of the playfield, complete with number of lifebars left. 
  • Spell names and bonuses have been added.
  • Esc+R (Quick Retry) and Esc+Q (Quick Exit) shortcuts added.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug during Chimata’s 4th attack where bombing would cause bullets to start being fired continuously from the top left corner of the screen.
  • Fixed a bug where attempting to restart after clearing (or losing all your lives) would crash the game.
